Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Teach ASL I, II, or III courses using approved curriculum and instructional materials.

  • Prepare lesson plans and visual materials that support student learning and engagement.

  • Incorporate Deaf culture and community awareness into lessons and discussions.

  • Provide instruction to individuals or groups in person and/or online.

  • Assess and track student progress; provide feedback and guidance as needed.

  • Promote a positive and inclusive learning environment for all participants.

  • Maintain communication with GCDHH staff regarding scheduling, attendance, and course updates.

  • Submit required paperwork (timesheets, attendance sheets, class notes, etc.) in a timely manner.

  • Maintain confidentiality in accordance with GCDHH policies.

  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the Community Coordinator.

Expected Working Hours:
  • Contract instructors typically teach between 2–10 hours per week, depending on course assignments and availability.

  • Scheduling is flexible and may include evening or weekend classes based on student demand and instructor preference. Classes may be offered online or in-person, depending on location and need.

Qualifications:
  • Fluent in American Sign Language (ASL) and knowledgeable about Deaf Culture.

  • Experience teaching ASL I, II, or III (preferred).

  • Minimum Associate degree or equivalent experience in ASL instruction, Deaf Studies, Education, or a related field.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with diverse learners and professionals.

  • Comfortable using technology for virtual classes (Zoom, Teams, etc.).

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Calendar).

  • Must pass a background check and/or drug screening.

  • Availability for flexible scheduling, including nights and weekends.
